Top Chinese Legislator Meets Brazilian Supreme Court President

Li Peng, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress, met Monday with Marco Aurelio Farias Mello, president of the Federal Supreme Tribunal of Brazil.

Li Peng, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress, met Monday with Marco Aurelio Farias Mello, president of the Federal Supreme Tribunal of Brazil.

Li said the relations and cooperation between China and Brazil have maintained smooth development in the fields of politics, economy, trade and culture since they established diplomatic ties in 1974.

He said Marco Mello's visit to China, which marks the first direct contact between judiciaries of the two countries, will serve as a good beginning for their exchanges and cooperation.

Marco Mello noted that China has made fruitful results in promoting its legal system, from which Brazil could learn a lot. He hoped to strengthen cooperation and exchanges with Chinese judicial circles.
