Experts Tackle Technical Issues on Three Gorges Dam

Experts have gathered for the fourth time to discuss technical problems on the Three Gorges Dam, the world's largest hydro-power project underway on the middle reaches of Yangtze River.

Experts have gathered for the fourth time to discuss technical problems on the Three Gorges Dam, the world's largest hydro-power project underway on the middle reaches of Yangtze River.

During the three-day seminar, which closed Wednesday here in central China's Hubei Province, 160 experts from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and Taiwan Province discussed issues such as the installation and adjustment of huge hydro-power generators and metal frameworks, the layout of the Yangtze River valley, the administration of the power plants and power supply enterprises, and other key tasks concerning river damming and concrete pouring.

According to the project agenda, the second river damming project on the Yangtze is to begin in November, and the concrete pouring is expected to be completed by next year's flood season, which has concerned technical staff and international academic circles.

Since 1993, when the project was launched, engineers, scholars and professors, as well as over 100 college students from HKSAR and Taiwan have visited the project site for technical exchanges and cooperation.
