Russian Plane Missing in Far East with 17 Aboard

A Russian An-28 plane with 14 passengers and three crew onboard went missing in the far-eastern Khabarovsk region on Thursday, the Russian Emergencies Ministry announced.

A Russian An-28 plane with 14 passengers and three crew onboard went missing in the far-eastern Khabarovsk region on Thursday, the Russian Emergencies Ministry announced.

Communication with the plane was broken at 11:58 Moscow summer time (0758 GMT), just 12 minutes before its scheduled landing at its destination, Ayan airfield, the ministry said.

The jet was enroute from Khabarovsk to Ayan village, located on the shores of the Okhotsk Sea, 830 kilometers north of the city of Khabarovsk.

Another An-28 and a Mi-8 helicopter were searching for the missing aircraft.
