Shanghai Petrochemical Becomes China's Top Ethylene Producer

Shanghai Petrochemical Company reported a record daily ethylene output of 2,700 tons, making it China's biggest producer and on a par with other leading international producers.

Shanghai Petrochemical Company reported a record daily ethylene output of 2,700 tons, making it China's biggest producer and on a par with other leading international producers.

Shanghai Petrochemical said it was capable of producing 870,000tons of ethylene annually thanks to heavy investment in projects to expand production capability in recent years.

The projects helped its annual production capability rise from 115,000 tons to 550,000 tons.

The price of ethylene, the basic raw petrochemical material, has been rising due to recovery of the world petrochemical industry.

Localization of most production equipment resulted in drastic reductions in its production costs and energy consumption.

With its three production lines operating at full capacity, the company said its output this year is expected to hit a record high.
