Trade unions in both China and Japan should work jointly for the expansion of friendly relations between the two countries, said Wei Jianxing, chairman of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU), on Sunday.

He was speaking during a meeting with a delegation of the Japanese Trade Union Confederation led by General Secretary Tadayoshi Kusano in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing Sunday afternoon.

The Japanese trade union delegation is in Beijing to attend activities marking the 30th anniversary of the normalization of Sino-Japanese diplomatic relations.

Wei, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, said that the anniversary celebrations stemmed from the spirit of drawing on historical lessons and facing the future, promoting the growth of friendly, cooperative relations and advancing Sino-Japanese friendship.

Passing friendship from generation to generation complies with the aspirations of both peoples and the interests of both countries and was conducive to maintaining peace and stability in Asia and the world at large, he said.

The Japanese guests are visiting China at the invitation of the ACFTU.
