A turkish steamship sank at Egypt's Mediterranean port of Alexandria on Sunday, but all nine crew members aboard the vessel were rescued, Egypt's official MENA news agency reported.

The accident occurred when the ship with a load of nearly 1,000 tons of oil derivative was anchoring at quay 12 at the port, MENA said, adding the accident slightly injured three crew members.

The report said preliminary investigations showed the ship capsized because water infiltrated its hull when the oil was being loaded.

The vessel was expected to sail to Libya.
