The wreckage of the unidentified ship sunken by Japanese coast guard last December will be brought to Japan for inspection late this month, a senior Japanese government official said on Monday.

The work to salvage the vessel, lying on the sea bed in East China Sea, has been halted due to Typhoon Rusa and is expected to be interrupted by approaching Typhoon Sinlaku, said Japan's Land, Infrastructure and Transport Vice Minister Toshiki Aoyama.

After Typhoon Sinlaku passes, the sunken ship will be raised from the sea floor onto a barge and transported to the seas near Kagoshima in southwestern Japan, he said.

It will be brought ashore in late September at the earliest after about a a 10-day inspection to confirm the safety of the hull, Aoyama said.
