China News Service Celebrates 50th Birthday

China News Service, China's second largest news agency, Monday held a cocktail party at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center to celebrate its 50th anniversary.

China News Service, China's second largest news agency, Monday held a cocktail party at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center to celebrate its 50th anniversary.

Founded on September 14, 1952 in Beijing, the agency is a wire service mainly for overseas Chinese throughout the world, and a window for foreigners to understand new China.

With an employment of over 500 people, the news service has branches or bureaus in 21 municipalities, provinces and autonomousregions and Hong Kong and Macao, as well as in foreign countries including the Untied States, Japan, France and Australia.

The service broadcasts mainly in the Chinese language, distributing around 100 pieces of stories and over 30 photos on China and the world.

More than 200 government officials, newsmen and people from allwalks of life in Hong Kong attended the party.
