Leandro Palladino scored 14 points to lead Argentina to a 95-71 victory over China on Monday in the second round of the World Basketball Championships.

China never resembled the team that held a 28-16 lead after onequarter against the U.S. at Saturday night.

Yao Ming, the No. 1 pick in the NBA draft, turned the ball overfour times and scored 11 points in 28 minutes but was never much of a factor.

China (1-3) struggled from areas of the floor, never developingan inside or outside game and turning the ball 21 times, which gave the rivals 34 points as gifts.

Menke Bateer of the Denver Nuggets, who led China with 19 points against the United States, scored 13, but 12 were in the second half.

"We have large distance from the Argentine team. Our players had a bad opening in today's game and since then, morale of the team was sinking lower and lower." said Wang Fei, the head coach of the Chinese team.

"We have serious problems in passing." added Wang.

Argentina opened the game with long-range accuracy, building an18-point lead on 79 percent shooting. At halftime, Argentina led 48-34 and was never threatened in the second half as it retained its 4-0 undefeated record in the championships.

China pulled within 10 points after a layup by Yao, but consecutive fastbreak layups by Hugo Sconochini and Fabricio Oberto never let the Chinese get any closer.

Luis Scola had 13 points, Ruben Wolkowysky had 12, Sconochini added 11 and Andres Noccioni 10 from Argentina.

Argentina shot 64 percent from the field and 50 percent (11-for-22) from 3-point range.
