China's first ever 300,000-ton oil tanker, 330 by 60 and with hold to a depth of 29.3 meters, was launched in the morning August 31, thereby putting an end to the history of having no ultra-large oil tanker made in China.

The oil tanker has its English name under VLCC (meaning super-large-scale crude oil carrier) as one among those of the world largest with its designated use for long-distance transport of crude oil.

In February last year, Nantong COSCO KHI Ship Engineering Co., Ltd. (NACKS) won the bid for building the oil tanker.

Nicknamed "Yuanda", the oil tanker has been built 11 storied with a deck as large as three football courts.

The oil tanker with its design is noted at a level to meet over 5-10 years' international-standard demand with which China has come to rank third in the world with a shipbuilding capacity of 300,000 tons after Japan and the Republic of Korea.

"Yuanda" is one of the two oil tankers jointly built by Nantong COSCO KHI Ship Engineering Co., Ltd. (NACKS) and Dalian New Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co., Ltd

Construction began on the tanker September 25 last year. Completed lately last August, it will be delivered by the end of this year.
