At least 12 people were killed and more than 20 others wounded in a heavy fighting between rival militiamen in the Somali capital Mogadishu on Tuesday.

The fighting between the Warsangeli and Agon-Yar subclans around the Fagah junction of north Mogadishu has culminated on Tuesday afternoon with the involvement of reinforcement of heavilyarmed militias from both sides.

The militiamen from both sides have these days been stationed and in defensive positions making the whole area very tense and clan elders from both sides were trying to separate them until Tuesday when the situation seemed to have gone out of control.

The reason for the fighting is not known, but it is known that the two sides are not fighting over grazing rights or landowner and not even for political purposes.

However, the relation between the Warsangeli and Agon-Yar subclans who both belong to the Abgal main clan was not good ever since the Warsanegli warlord Mohamed Omar Habeb controlling Jowhartown had attacked the residence of the Agon-Yar interior minister of the transitional national government in Mogadishu, Dahir Dayah,a few months ago.

Killing and retaliating has been common between the two sides, but nobody knows who has started the fighting this time.

The militiamen of both sides accuse each other of starting the fighting. There's no official word as yet from of the two sides and likewise there's no word from the government.

Meanwhile, six people have died and six others were wounded when a Land Rover truck they have been traveling in hit a landminein Bashaqle area, about 180 km northeast of Mogadishu Monday night.

All of the dead and the wounded are well known traditional leaders who were on their way back from the pacification of the Wa'aysleh subclans who fought in and around the Masaggo-Way village last month.

The reason for this landmine explosion or who mined the road isnot stated officially, however eyewitnesses said that clan militias have mined the road in fear of another clan militias whomthey think would attack them.
