Sino-Irish Cooperation to Educate Software Talents

The establishment of a software school at Fudan University in Shanghai Tuesday marks the beginning of a partnership between Fudan and Ireland-based University College of Dublin (UCD) in training the new generation of techno-wizzes.

The Fudan Software School is the first of China's 35 model software schools approved to be established by the Ministry of Education and the State Development Planning Commission to partnerwith established foreign counterparts.

Three majors, namely, system software, network services and software engineering, are offered by the new school, at which over 300 students are pursuing their bachelor's and master's degrees.

Professors from UCD will teach one-third of the major courses, with classes of about 50 students each. Students from the "Ireland Class" will receive bachelor's degrees from both universities upon graduation.

The two sides will also join hands in training teachers.

The school is also cooperating with international software giants such as Microsoft, IBM and Intel.
