Former US Attorney General Calls for End to Iraqi Sanctions

Former US attorney general Ramsey Clark called for an end to the United Nations' sanctions against Iraq on Wednesday, which have been enforced since early 1991.

Former US attorney general Ramsey Clark called for an end to the United Nations' sanctions against Iraq on Wednesday, which have been enforced since early 1991.

"The war against Iraq has been going on for more than 12 years.It has been killing scores of people every day," Clark told reporters at a press conference.

Clark, US attorney general in the Johnson administration, just concluded a trip to Baghdad with a US peace delegation to show their solidarity with the Iraqi people.

While Clark's delegation was in Iraq, US and British warplanes struck Iraq twice -- in Basra on Aug. 25 and in Mosul and a suburbof Baghdad on Aug. 27. Clark and the delegation visited the areas bombed and spoke to family survivors as well as hospitals officials who tended to the wounded.
