Russian Defense Minister to Visit Afghanistan
Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov will fly to Afghanistan on Friday for a one-day official visit, the Defense Ministry said Thursday.

on Friday for a one-day official visit, the Defense Ministry said Thursday.
This is the first visit by a Russian Defense Minister to Kabul.During the visit, Ivanov is expected to meet with Afghan President Hamid Karzai and the Defense Minister Mohammad Fahim on Russia's military aid to Afghanistan as well as situation in the region, said the ministry's press secretary Nikolai Deryabin.
Ivanov said on the eve of his Kabul trip that Russia was ready to provide aid to Afghan troops in logistics, communications and restoration of the aircraft fleet.
He said the Russian government would appropriate definite funds for this purpose in this year.
The minister also noted that the two countries were to discuss the possibility of training Afghan junior officers at a temporary educational center in Tajik capital of Dushanbe, based at the 201st Russian motorized division.
He said such courses could be organized within ten to eleven months.
