Both the Israelis and Palestinians should make efforts to resolve their problems through dialogue and negotiation, says China's Foreign Ministry spokesman Kong Quan.

Kong made the remarks in Beijing on Thursday when commenting ona journalist's question on the Middle East situation.

The Chinese government had always been concerned over developments in the Middle East region, he said.

The Israelis and Palestinians should, for the sake of their ownbasic interests as well as a lasting peace in the region, face reality and be restrained to break the current cycle of violence and retaliation, he said.

The Israeli high court of justice on Tuesday permitted the armyto deport relatives of Palestinian "terrorists" from the West Bank to Gaza.

Kong said such a move should be opposed as it harmed national feelings on both sides.

He called on Israel to take no steps detrimental to the easing of the already tense regional situation.
