China will continue to actively participate in and promote international anti-terrorism cooperation, Chinese Foreign Ministry Kong Quan said Thursday.

Kong said at the ministry's regular press conference that China has been one of the victims of terrorism, which is a public disaster for the international community. So the Chinese government has always firmly opposed terrorism in any form.

The Chinese government has adopted a series of measures to fight terrorism after the Sept. 11 Incident, Kong said.

In the multi-lateral field, China has participated in and promoted the United Nations General Assembly and Security Council to adopt resolutions against terrorism.

In the bilateral area, China has formed a consultation mechanism with quite a few countries, including the United States, Britain, Russia, France, India and Pakistan.

Domestically, China has taken measures to fight and prevent terrorism in many areas such as finance, law enforcement, civil aviation safety and border entry and exit, the spokesman said.

The Chinese government will continue to strengthen international cooperation and learn from other countries in the fight against terrorism.

Remarkable progresses have been made by various countries in anti-terrorism cooperation over the past year, but "there is still a long way to go," Kong said.

The international community should enhance cooperation and make a comprehensive strategy based on the UN Charter to root out terrorism.

Meanwhile, terrorism should not be linked with specific states, nationalities or religions, he said.
