Typhoon Sinlaku Heads for Southeast China

Typhoon Sinlaku, the 16th typhoon of this year, will strike coasts of south China's Fujian and Zhejiang provinces beginning late Friday night and into Saturday, China's Central Meteorological Station forecasted Thursday.

Typhoon Sinlaku, the 16th typhoon of this year, will strike coasts of south China's Fujian and Zhejiang provinces beginning late Friday night and into Saturday, China's Central Meteorological Station forecasted Thursday.

The typhoon is predicted to move east at a speed of 10-15 km per hour, producing moderate to whole gales in the East China Sea,Taiwan, the Taiwan strait and Zhejiang and Fujian provinces Thursday night and Friday. Surface winds near the typhoon center may reach storm or hurricane force.

Moderate to heavy rains are expected in Zhejiang, Fujian and Taiwan provinces with some regions suffering from torrential rainsThursday night and Friday.

At 5:00 p.m. Thursday, the typhoon's center was monitored at 26.6 degrees north latitude and 126.0 degrees east longitude. Surfacewinds near the typhoon center had reached hurricane force.
