Student Pilot's Plane Intercepted after Flying near Restricted Space in US

A student pilot who flied a plane near the restricted air space around Washington was intercepted by military jets and escorted to a landing in the neighboring state of Maryland on Thursday, officials said.

A student pilot who flied a plane near the restricted air space around Washington was intercepted by military jets and escorted to a landing in the neighboring state of Maryland on Thursday, officials said.

The Secret Service has asked police to detain anyone aboard after the plane landed at Montgomery County Air Park in Gaithersburg about 10:15 (14:15 GMT), a county police spokeswoman said.

The details of the plane, which took off from Tipton Airport near Fort Meade in Maryland, were not immediately available. But the spokeswoman said the pilot was obviously not a terrorist.
