Chinese Premier Concludes Visits to African Countries

Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji left here Friday for Beijing after a successful four-nation Africa tour.

From Aug. 25 to Sept. 6, Zhu paid official visits to Algeria, Morocco and Cameroon, and a working visit to South Africa, where he also participated in the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) held in Johannesburg from Aug. 26 to Sept. 4.

During his two-week trip, Zhu exchanged views with leaders of the four countries on bilateral relations and international issuesof common concern, and reached important consensus in this regard.

During the WSSD, Zhu elaborated the Chinese government's policyon sustainable development, and formally announced the ratification of the Kyoto Protocol, showing China's positive attitude and important influence in solving international issues.

Also in the summit, Zhu met with British Prime Minister Tony Blair, Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, World Trade Organization Director-General Supachai Panitchpakdi and other heads of state and government.
