Cancelling agreements is declaration of war: Palestinian officials

Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's announcement of cancelling all the peace agreements signed with the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) is a declaration of war, PNA Minister of Information Yasser Abed Rabbo said Friday.

Rabbo made the response after an Israeli newspaper quoted Sharonas saying the landmark Oslo, Taba and Camp David agreements signed with Palestinians are no longer valid.

"There is no doubt that Israel is leading a war against our people that had never stopped over the past years, but such statements made by Sharon would bring us 20 years back," said Abed Rabbo.

Nabil Abu Rudeineh, a top aide to Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, said Sharon's statements aim to exacerbate tension and political destabilization in the region.

"Sharon's statements are part of his aggressive policy against the Palestinian people and their legitimate leadership and against the peace process," he told reporters in Ramallah.

The official called on the international community and the quartet of the United Nations, the European Union, the United States and Russia to move as quickly as possible to prevent the situation from further deterioration in the region.
