Turkey Beats China 94-86 in Basketball Worlds

Mehmet Okur scored 24 points and Hedo Turkoglu added 21, helping Turkey beat China 94-86 Fridayin the consolation round of the World Basketball Championships.

Turkey (3-4), a world championships rookie, will play Russia (3-4) for ninth place on Saturday.

Okur, who has signed with the Detroit Pistons, and Turkoglu, who plays for the Sacramento Kings, hit consecutive 3-pointers to give Turkey a 65-51 lead with 4:37 left in the third quarter.

China (1-6) then went on a 9-0 run to get within five, but Okurended the burst with a driving move over center Yao Ming.

Yao, the NBA's No. 1 draft pick by the Houston Rockets, had 26 points, 14 rebounds and five assists for China, which had its bestfinish, eighth, in its last appearance in 1994.
