Iran has successfully test-fired a solid-fuelled surface-to-surface missile, the official IRNA news agency reported on Friday.

Ahmad Vahid, head of Iranian Defense Ministry's aerospace industry organization, was quoted as saying the missile, dubbed Fateh (Conqueror) A-110, is "the latest achievement" of the country's defense industry.

"Given the missile's precision, we can definitely announce that Fateh A-110 is among the most precise surface-to-surface missiles in the world," Vahid said.

He stressed Iran's strategies for "peaceful" and "defensive" use of the space, saying a line will be launched soon for mass production of the Fateh missiles, which is built with indigenous know-how in design and production.

Iran is only after establishing a deterrent force against future threats and crises, Vahid stressed.

It has been developing a comprehensive domestic defense industry since its war with Iraq in 1980-88.

In 2000, Iran's military forces successfully launched the Shahab-3 missile with a range of 1,300 km, raising deep concerns from the United States and Israel, Iran's two arch-foes.
