The Chinese government attaches great importance to the development of both the software and the hardware environments in attracting foreign investment, said Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Shi Guangsheng Sunday.

Shi made the remark during a meeting with the Chairman of the Board of Motorola, Chris Galvin, who is in Xiamen to attend the Sixth China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT).

Thanks to the continued and healthy growth of its economy, China has attracted large amounts of foreign funds despite the downturn of the world economy, Shi said.

The CIFIT, which is expected to attract over 10,000 foreign businessmen, reflects the new image of China since its entry into the World Trade Organization, he said, welcoming more foreign investment to China's service sector.

Galvin said the great achievements China has made in economic development are impressive, and Motorola wishes to expand its service in China through strengthening research and development forces in this region, so as to contribute to the upgrading of China's high-technology industry.
