Top Legislator Li Peng Starts Visit to Indonesia

Chinese top legislator Li Peng arrived in Jakarta Sunday for a four-day official goodwill visit to Indonesia.

Chinese top legislator Li Peng arrived in Jakarta Sunday for a four-day official goodwill visit to Indonesia.

In a statement released upon his arrival, Li said that China and Indonesia have enjoyed long history of friendly relations, andhave witnessed marked improvement in bilateral ties in recent years. He said he expects his visit this time will bring new impetus to the development of comprehensive cooperation based on mutual trust and mutual benefits between the two nations.

Li is expected to meet his host Muhammad Amien Rais, chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly, Hamzah Haz, vice-president of Indonesia and other leaders.

Li, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People'sCongress (NPC), is on a four-nation Asian-Pacific visit, which hasbrought him to Thailand and will take him to the Philippines and Australia.
