Chinese President Greets Bangladesh's New President

Jiang Zemin, President of the People's Republic of China, on Saturday congratulated Iajuddin Ahmed on his inauguration as President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh.

Jiang Zemin, President of the People's Republic of China, on Saturday congratulated Iajuddin Ahmed on his inauguration as President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh.

In a message sent to Iajuddin, Jiang extended, on behalf of the Chinese people and in his own name, "warm congratulations" to the new president.

"As China and Bangladesh are friendly neighbors, bilateral relations between the two countries have been developing smoothly on the basis of five principles of peaceful coexistence and mutual cooperation have resulted in positive achievements after diplomatic relations was established," Jiang said in the message.

Jiang said that the Chinese people have regarded the Bangladeshi people as sincere and trustworthy friends. He held the belief that with joint efforts, the friendly and cooperative ties between the two countries will certainly be further enhanced in the future.
