Beijing Carries out Anti-terrorism Emergency Drill

3:21 pm, with a string of deafening sounds, a highriser of the city was engulfed in flames and smokes, part of it collapsed, and with trapped people waving their arms and shouting for help.
Eight red signal flares lightened the sky. The "119" control center of Beijing general fire brigade was immediately sent on duty and fire engines, ambulances rushed to the spot. Aide equipment was spread out and a team of firefighters rushed against the smoke. Scaling and rope ladders were set up. People trapped, some crawled to security by the scaling ladder under the aide of fireman, some slid onto safe buildings by ropes in the air, and others carried out by firemen. The wounded were rushed to hospital by ambulances long waiting there.
The flames subsided but smokes remained. A second batch of fire engines and ambulances arrived, and full-equipped firemen joined in the battle immediately. These are a task force from nearby

and
Tianjin
. With the search and rescue force also come firemen from
Shandong
,
Shanxi
and
Liaoning
in support. A rescue dog from Liaoning soon found out injured people buried under rubbles, and advanced equipment was used in the digging work.
Carried out under the presumption that a highriser caught fire in terrorist attacks, the drill was designed to examine and improve the ability of transregional rescue and use of new equipment, according to Xinhua reports. The exercised items included fire fighting and rescue work in high building, searches in rubbles as well as emergency treatment of poisonous gas.
