HK's Foreign Currency Reserve Amounts to 100 Billion US dollars

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority(HKMA) announced Monday that the official foreign currency reserve assets of Hong Kong amounted to 112.3 billion US dollars at the end of August 2002.

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority(HKMA) announced Monday that the official foreign currency reserve assets of Hong Kong amounted to 112.3 billion US dollars at the end of August 2002.

Including unsettled forward contracts, the foreign currency reserve assets of Hong Kong at the end of August 2002 stood at 112.1 billion dollars, a drop of 0.4 billion dollars over the end of July.

In terms of foreign currency reserves ranking, Hong Kong is theworld's fifth largest holder of foreign currency reserves, after Japan, the Chinese Mainland, Taiwan and South Korea.

The 112.3 billion-dollar foreign currency reserve assets represent over seven times the currency in circulation in Hong Kong.
