Visiting Chinese top lawmaker
Li Peng
Tuesday predicted a bright future for economic cooperation between China and
Indonesia
.
Addressing a grand welcoming banquet given by Indonesian business communities and attended by some 1,000 guests, Li said the economic growth in China as well as its accession to the WorldTrade Organization (WTO) are set to provide more business opportunities for its neighboring countries in Southeast Asia, including Indonesia.
Li, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People'sCongress (
NPC
), reassured that China will honor its pledge to extend a concessional credit of 400 million US dollars to Indonesia to help improve its infrastructure.
Moreover, the selection of Indonesia as the supplier of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) for China's southeastern province of
Fujian
will benefit Indonesia's oil and gas industry, he said.
He added that the two sides could also enhance their cooperation in other fields, such as energy exploitation, tourism and timber industries.
Li also expressed his hope that the large Indonesian-Chinese communities in the country will continue to make contributions to the economic development of Indonesia and act as a bridge for China-Indonesia friendship.
"The China-Indonesia relationship has now entered a new stage of development, thanks to the great efforts made by several generations of both countries. Let's cherish such hard-won friendly ties, redouble our efforts and join hands in opening up new horizons for our bilateral relations," Li said.
