Israeli FM Meets PNA Delegation

An Israeli team headed by Foreign Minister Shimon Peres met Tuesday evening in Tel Aviv with a high-ranking Palestinian delegation led by senior negotiator Saeb Erekat, Israel Radio reported.

An Israeli team headed by Foreign Minister Shimon Peres met Tuesday evening in Tel Aviv with a high-ranking Palestinian delegation led by senior negotiator Saeb Erekat, Israel Radio reported.

The talk is expected to discuss the possibility of easing the plight of West Bank and Gaza residents, and the two sides will alsodiscuss requests by the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) to receive an additional allotment of PNA funds frozen since the beginning of the blood conflict between the two sides since nearly two years ago.

According to the Radio report, Peres said during the meeting that Israel will withdraw its forces from every place where the Palestinians demonstrate their ability to take responsibility for preventing terror attacks in those areas.

After the meeting, according to the report, the Israeli Defense Minister Benyamin Ben Eliezer would meet with PNA Interior MinisterAbdel Razaq al Yehya to discuss security issues including the "Gaza-Bethlehem first" withdrawal plan.

The radio said before the meeting Peres and Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon have decided to transfer some 15 million US dollars of frozen tax revenues to the PNA "with appropriate monitoring".

The talks took place as the Israeli foreign minister prepares todepart late Tuesday for the United States.

Peres will pay a week long visit to the United States to participate in the General Debate of the 57th session of the UnitedNations General Assembly as well as a number of events commemorating the victims of the Sept. 11 attacks.
