US Closes Its Embassies for Security Reason

On the eve of the first anniversary of Sept. 11th terror attack, the United States closed some of its embassies in the Asian and Middle East region as it raised its alert level from code yellow to orange throughout the country Tuesday.

On the eve of the first anniversary of Sept. 11th terror attack, the United States closed some of its embassies in the Asian and Middle East region as it raised its alert level from code yellow to orange throughout the country Tuesday.

Terror threats have forced the United States to close its embassies in Jakarta, Indonesia; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Hanoi, Vietnam; Islamabad, Pakistan; Phnom Penh, Cambodia; Lilongwe, Malawi and Dushanbe, Tajikistan, according to a US government official.

Richard Boucher, spokesman for the US State Department, told reporters here Tuesday that there was a "real threat on a global basis that Americans need to be aware of".

In another developments, the highest alert was put Tuesday in the US forces in Bahrain, where some 4,000 US military servicemen are based, according to US defense officials.

US military forces based elsewhere in the Middle East also raised alert level in response to the administration warnings of terror attacks.
