U.S. forces marked solemnly on Wednesday the first anniversary of September 11 terrorist attacks at Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan.

The Star-Spangled Banner was retreated in a clarion call after a moment of silence while hundreds of American soldiers were lining up to commemorate the victims in terrorist attacks on the tragedy day of September 11, 2001.

"We will not forget the events in the terrible morning, nor will we forget about how Americans responded in New York city, at the Pentagon and in the sky over Pennsylvania," US President George W. Bush said in a letter of consolation to American soldiers in Afghanistan and he announced September 11 a Patriot Day every year.

The commander of American Force in Afghanistan, Lieutenant General Dan McNeill, paid his respect to those who died in the terrorist attacks and those who sacrificed in the war against terrorism. "The war is not over. Without done, we are waiting," hevowed to win the war against terrorism.

Bagram is the biggest military base of U.S. force in the war against terrorism in Afghanistan. The United States attacked Afghanistan last year after hijacked plane assaults in New York and Washington D.C. killed about 3,000 people on Sept. 11.
