Vice-Premier Meets Canon President

Chinese Vice-Premier Wu Bangguo met in Beijing Wednesday with Fujio Mitarai, president and chief executive officer of Japan's Canon Inc.

Chinese Vice-Premier Wu Bangguo met here Wednesday with Fujio Mitarai, president and chief executive officer of Japan's Canon Inc.

Wu noted this year marks the 30th anniversary of the normalization of Sino-Japanese ties, which have made great progress in all spheres under efforts from both sides. Wu said he hopes bilateral relations make further progress in the new century.

Mitarai's visit to China bears great significance at this time,Wu said, expressing appreciation for the CEO's long-time efforts in boosting Sino-Japanese economic and trade relations and enhancing their technological and cultural exchanges.

The vice-premier said he hopes Canon make new contributions to the development of China-Japan economic cooperation in the future.

Mitarai said he is pleased at the development of the two nations' ties during the past three decades, and congratulated China on its WTO entry and rapid economic developments.

He said Canon began its cooperation with China 15 years ago andit has developed smoothly under support from the two sides.

He promised his company will increase investment in China and expand its business in the country.
