The Japan Coast Guard (JCG) announced Thursday that eight bodies have been found in and around the unidentified ship, sunken by JCG boats last December in the East China Sea.

Six bodies were found on the seabed near the ship, while one was found inside the ship's engine room and another on the deck, Japan's Kyodo News said, quoting sources from JCG.

The ship was sunken by JCG patrol boats about 390 kilometers off the western Japan island of Amami-Oshima on Dec. 22 last year.

Of the six found on the seabed, two were recovered during an underwater probe in May.

A Japanese vessel on Wednesday raised the sunken ship from a depth of 90 meters and put it in a water-filled tank on its deck.

Bringing the 100-ton class ship to Kagoshima Bay will take about three days, Kyodo said, adding that JCG will then spend about a week checking it and bring it to land around Sept. 20.

There is a small vessel, with three engines and three screws, in the stern of the ship, according to Kyodo.
