Pudong, the innovation engine of Shanghai, has an ongoing mission to commercialize and industrialize the results of scientific research and promote high-tech startups as market demand increases, according to Liang Gui, director of the local science and technology bureau.

Chinese academics, scientists, technicians and their foreign counterparts will take part in some 30 activities, including exhibition of technological innovation projects, a forum on incubation of startups and discussions on fundraising for innovation and incubation.

On display during the week will be more than 700 innovation projects ranging from telecommunications to genetic research to new agricultural technology.

The projects have been developed by more than 300 research institutes and scientific and technological enterprises under the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the Commission of Science, Technology and Industryfor National Defense, as well as organizations from provinces across the country.

Over 100 investors will attend the week's activities, while some Nobel Prize winners, prestigious economists and CAS academicians will be invited to lecture at symposiums.

Pudong now is home to more than 150 research and development institutions in high-tech areas, 75 R & D centers launched by trans-national corporations, and more than 200 investment companies, investment management firms and investment consulting houses.

The Pudong Innovation and Incubation Week will be held once every other year.
