China's Top Legislator Starts Visit to Philippines
Chinese top legislator Li Peng arrived in Manila Thursday evening for a three-day official goodwill visit to the Philippines.

arrived here Thursday evening for a three-day official goodwill visit to the Philippines.
In a statement issued upon his arrival, Li said that China and the Philippines have achieved marked progress in boosting bilateral ties in recent years, featuring fruitful cooperation in various fields and good coordination on world and regional affairs.
Li said that the two countries share a lot of interests and their cooperation still has great potential to tap.
"To expand cooperation for common development conforms to the fundamental interests of both peoples and conduces to regional peace, stability and prosperity," Li said.
Li, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People'sCongress, is due to meet President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, and House Speaker Jose de Venecia.
The Philippines is the third leg of Li's four-nation Asia-Pacific visit, which has brought him to
Thailand
and
Indonesia
, and will take him to
Australia
.
