HK to Attend Infrastructure Coordination Conference In Shanghai

A delegation of senior government officials of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) will leave for Shanghai to attend the next round of meeting of the Mainland/HKSAR Conference on Coordination of Major Infrastructure Projects.

A delegation of senior government officials of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) will leave for Shanghai to attend the next round of meeting of the Mainland/HKSAR Conference on Coordination of Major Infrastructure Projects.

The delegation, led by Donald Tsang, chief secretary for administration of the Hong Kong SAR, will leave Hong Kong on Sept.18, according to the Hong Kong SAR government Friday.

Under the framework of the coordination conference, two expert groups have been formed to study the planning and development of port and logistics facilities as well as the planning for Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link.

The coming meeting on Sept. 20 is mainly for the expert groups to report progress and work out a plan for the next stage.

Initiated by the State Development Planning Commission, the conference was set up in early 2002.

It aims to strengthen coordination and cooperation on the transport system and large-scale infrastructure projects between Hong Kong and the mainland, and enhance mutual economic developments in the two places.

The meeting was first held in Beijing on Jan. 31, 2002. Thereafter, exchange of views and site visits were conducted in March in Hong Kong and Pearl River Delta region, respectively.

The Hong Kong SAR delegation will be accompanied by Shanghai municipal government officials to visit major infrastructure facilities in the city, including the magnetically levitated railway in Pudong, Phase II development of Pudong International Airport and port facilities in Waigaoqiao.

The SAR delegation will return to Hong Kong in the afternoon ofSept. 20.
