Bush Promises US role in Reducing Tension in South Asia

US President George W. Bush has assured Pakistan that the United States would continue to play its role in reduction of tension in the South Asian region.

US President George W. Bush has assured Pakistan that the United States would continue to play its role in reduction of tension in the South Asian region.

Bush made the commitment while meeting Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf in New York on Thursday evening, the Associated Press of Pakistan reported on Friday.

During the meeting, Musharraf informed Bush in detail about the initiatives taken by Pakistan to ease tension in the region and to initiate a dialogue with India, saying, "But the Indian intransigence is the main hurdle."

Bush expressed US willingness to continue to play a role for the reduction of tension between India and Pakistan.

Musharraf reiterated Pakistan's commitment to remaining a front-line ally of the coalition in the war against global terrorism.

Bush wished Musharraf success in his endeavor to bring sustainable democracy to Pakistan.
