Police said the five-hour gunfight erupted when a band of pirates attacked the mechanized boat of another gang getting away with the loot after committing piracy on a cargo vessel.

The two groups exchanged several hundred gunshots during the fight which stopped after arrival of the coastal police.

The pirates also exchanged fire with police. But they fled later.
