Makro to Open More Stores in China

Makro, a leading wholesale warehouse chain that has operated in China for four years, will open a total of 30 membership chain-stores in China by 2010, according to company sources.

Makro, a leading wholesale warehouse chain that has operated in China for four years, will open a total of 30 membership chain-stores in China by 2010, according to company sources.

The application of the Netherlands-based Makro to open more stores in some Chinese cities has recently been approved by the Chinese government.

According to the sources, Makro will open a store in north China's Tianjin city late this year. In 2003, it will open stores in Shijiazhuang City in north China, Shenyang City in northeast China, and in Beijing.

Currently, Makro runs two joint-venture stores in Beijing, which posted sales worth 850 million yuan (102.4 million US dollars) in 2001.
