China Attaches Great Importance to Annan Visit

Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan said Friday that he welcomes the upcoming visit to China by UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, and the Chinese side attaches great importance to his China tour.

Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan said Friday that he welcomes the upcoming visit to China by UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, and the Chinese side attaches great importance to his China tour.

Tang made the remarks as he was meeting with Annan at the UN headquarters in New York on the sideline of the annual high-level debate of the 57th General Assembly session.

Annan voiced his thanks to the Chinese foreign minister for thevisit invitation, saying that he is looking forward to meeting with Chinese leaders and experiencing again the great changes in China.

Tang expressed his appreciation of Annan's speech, which was delivered Thursday at the opening of the general debate of the General Assembly and underlined multilateralism, international cooperation and the important role of the United Nations.
