China and France Saturday agreed to further develop their bilateral relations and expressed the hope to strengthen their cooperation in the international affairs.

The agreement came when Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan met with his French counterpart, Dominique de Villepin, on the sidelines of the annual high-level debate of the 57th General Assembly session.

Tang said that China and France are both satisfied with the new development in their relations and hoping to advance their cooperation in all fields.

Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji's upcoming visit to France is of great significance to Sino-French relations, Tang said.

China attaches great importance to cooperation with France in the international affairs, and China is ready to strengthen mutual understanding and coordination with France in this regard, he added.

For his part, de Villepin said that his country is looking forward to Zhu's visit, and voiced his hope that the two countries can score an all-around development in the political, economic and trade, and cultural fields.

France values its strategic dialogue with China and hopes to further strengthen such a dialogue, de Villepin said.
