Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan said Saturday that China and Germany have enjoyed sound development in bilateral ties over the past years, and that China is ready to work with Germany to take bilateral ties to a new stage.

Tang made the remarks during a meeting with German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer here on the sidelines of the annual debate of the 57th General Assembly session.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Germany, and the two countries have planned to celebrate the occasion in October, Tang said.

Chinese President Jiang Zemin's state visit to Germany in Aprilwas very successful and the Chinese and German leaders have reached a broad consensus on how to further develop bilateral relations, he said.

Jiang's visit to Germany is of great and far-reaching significance in the development of the bilateral relations, he said.

China and Germany, both influential countries in their respective regions, respect each other and treat each other with sincerity, and they have further strengthened dialogue and mutual understanding, the Chinese foreign minister said.

Tang also spoke highly of Germany's adherence to its "one China" policy.

Fischer said that Germany attaches great importance to the Germany-China relations, and his government is pleased to see the regular high-level exchanges between the two countries.

Germany hopes to further promote the bilateral relations and strengthen its cooperation with China in international affairs, Fischer added.
