Cargo Ship on Fire in British Channel

A cargo ship, said to be carrying 20 tones of hazardous cargo, is on fire in the English channel Sunday.

A cargo ship, said to be carrying 20 tones of hazardous cargo, is on fire in the English channel Sunday.

The Wester Till, a roll-on roll-off container ship, is believedto be bound for Tunisia, BBC reports said, adding that 13 crew members are on board, but there are no reports of injuries.

The ship - registered in Antigua - is carrying 512 tones of general cargo and 20 tones of dangerous cargo.

A spokeswoman for the Maritime and Coast-guard Agency said "the vessel is still on fire at the moment but it is being fought by the crew on board."
