Family of Five Killed in House Explosion in US

A family of five in the northern US state of Michigan were killed in an explosion Sunday in the farmhouse they just moved in on Saturday, police said.

A family of five in the northern US state of Michigan were killed in an explosion Sunday in the farmhouse they just moved in on Saturday, police said.

State Police Lt. Tim Young said one of the men killed had been hired to manage the hog farm by an Indiana company and had moved into the Bangor Township house on Thursday. The rest of the family arrived Saturday.

The explosion occurred at about 2:30 am (0630 GMT), rattling windows up to three miles (about 5 kilometers) away in the area about 30 miles (about 48 kilometers) west of Kalamazoo. Two children, aged one and four, were among the dead.

Officials said they believe the explosion was accidental.
