Japan Conducts Test Flight to Pyongyang

A Japanese government plane on Sunday flew to Pyongyang on a test flight to prepare for Prime Minister Junichiro Koizum's visit to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) next Tuesday, Japan's Kyodo News reported.

A Japanese government plane on Sunday flew to Pyongyang on a test flight to prepare for Prime Minister Junichiro Koizum's visit to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) next Tuesday, Japan's Kyodo News reported.

The plane left Tokyo's Haneda airport before 11:00 a.m. (0200 GMT) bound for Pyongyang's Sunan airport and returned home later the same day, the report said.

The flight was aimed at helping Japan's Air Self-Defense Force crew get used to the DPRK's air traffic control system, Kyodo said.

Koizumi will fly to Pyongyang aboard the same plane on Sept. 17for a one-day visit to the DPRK, Kyodo said.

The Japanese prime minister will hold a summit meeting with DPRK leader Kim Jong Il and return to Japan the same day.

The Japanese government has two special planes and both will beused on Sept. 17, with one serving as a backup, Kyodo said.
