Two men and a woman were found slain in a Union City home that had been ransacked, the apparent victims of a violent struggle in the normally tranquil East Bay city, San Francisco, police said Sept.13.

The three bodies were found in the living room of the two-story home at 33056 Compton Court, a quiet cul-de-sac off Lowry Road, about 10 p.m. Thursday.

All three were victims of an apparent homicide.

Officers were summoned after the mother of a woman living at the home stopped by to see why her daughter had not answered her phone calls -- and found the lifeless body of a woman lying on the floor, police said.

Police found two more bodies and did a "protective sweep" of the home to make sure no one else was inside.

The three victims, described as being in their 20s or 30s, were pronounced dead at the scene. The identities of the dead were not available this morning, and the cause of their deaths was not immediately known.

Union City police Capt. Brian Foley said a young couple rented the home, and neighbors said they moved in less than a year ago and kept to themselves.

The entire residence -- both floors and the garage -- had been rifled through, possibly by more than one person, police said.

Friday morning, crime-scene technicians clad in white lab coats arrived at the home. It could take most of the day to finish the task because of the significant amount of evidence found inside, Foley said.

No motive for the slayings has been established, and no arrests have been made. Union City has had only one other homicide this year, the stabbing death of a man on June 1 by his wife, police said.

The triple slaying and its many unanswered questions stunned neighbors and officials in a city that averages only one homicide a year.
