The Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip have expressed fears that Israel would deport Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat and reoccupy the Palestinian territories, Palestinian security sources said on Monday.

The sources cited that in the past few weeks, Israel released a statement to the media saying Israel was going to deport Arafat.

Earlier, Former Israeli Army Chief of Staff Shaul Mofaz said Israel made a mistake during the Palestinian Intifada (uprising) asit did not arrest and deport Arafat to an Arab country.

Israel is leading a huge propaganda to convince and influence the international and domestic public opinion that they don't want Arafat.

Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and the United States have claimed that they don't want to see Arafat ruling the Palestinians any longer.

The Palestinian security officials said it became clear that Israel is planning to deport Arafat when the United States launches its attack on Iraq.

Palestinian analysts said if Israel carries out such a step and deports Arafat, it would immediately carry out another step to totally reoccupy all the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

But Israel would probably face a war by Palestinian militants from resistance groups including the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and the Islamic Jihad (Holy War), they added.

Palestinian Planning Minister Nabil Shaath, however, said he was promised by US President George W. Bush during their brief meeting at the United Nations that the Palestinians won't be hurt if the United States attacks Iraq.

Shaath added that Bush told him that he feels pain when he sees the Palestinian suffering and he would make all his best to stop the suffering of the Palestinian people.
