Southern African Air Forces to Stage Joint Exercise in Zambia
Air forces of southern African countries decided on Monday to hold a joint training exercise in Zambia next year.

Air forces of southern African countries decided on Monday to hold a joint training exercise in
Zambia
next year.
The announcement was made after the one-day conference with delegates coming from
Angola
, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia,
South Africa
, Swaziland,
Tanzania
, Zambia and
Zimbabwe
.
The sixth standing aviation committee conference of Southern African Development Community (SADC) held in Pretoria said in a statement the exercise would be held in July or August 2003.
The statement said that the scenario for the exercise is a simulated disaster relief operation. The intention is to exercise air forces and air arms in the intra-operability of equipment and command and control, harmonizing logistics, and standardizing training in humanitarian aid missions.
Also on the agenda was increasing cooperation with airspace management, aviation safety, logistics and training.
According to the statement, the committee, which was headed by Zambian air force commander Lieutenant General CEA Singogo, forms part of the SADC's inter-state defense and security council.
The conference forms part of the run-up to the biannual African Aerospace and Defense show, which starts at Waterkloof air force base close to Johannesburg on Wednesday.
