At least 34 people died and more than 20 were injured when a 58-person capacity bus crashed into a valley in northern Argentina on Sunday night, police said.

Many passengers on the bus were on a pilgrimage and were traveling from Tucucan province to San Fernando del valle de Catamarca when the bus plunged into a 100-meter-deep ravine, about1,000 kilometers northeast of Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina.

Police and rescuers have found at least 34 bodies and more than20 injured were rushed to a nearby hospital. The death toll was expected to grow as some of the injured were in a serious condition.

The cause of the accident was still unknown, but the brake failure was suspected as a possible reason.

Several major accidents have happened in Argentina so far this year, killing nearly 100 in all.
