Padashah Khan Zadran, the only warlord in Southern province Khost, was defeated by governmental forces and escaped Monday to an unknown place, local news reported.

According to Kabul TV, hundreds of Zadran's commanders and soldiers Sunday surrendered to the government after more than 10 days of conflicts with the forces supporting Hajim Tanaiwar, sitting governor of the province.

After the collapse of the Taliban, Zadran was appointed as the governor of Khost but two months later he was dismissed by Karzai for the terrible security situation in the province.

Zadran then lined up his forces against the interim government and the later the transitional administration. At least 26 people were killed in recent rocket attacks launched by Zadran.

Now the governmental forces were trying to stabilize the area and bring safety to residents of the province, the report said.
